The sixth international junior’s tournament "Young stars of the world» Vanya Somov memories will take place between 15th and 28th of November 2008 in Kirishi city (Leningrad region) in Culture Palace. Among participants there are twelve strongest chessplayers of the world and Russia of 1993 w.b. or before. The tournament will be installed a norm of the international master. The chess festival "Young hopes of the North-West" takes place in Kirishi (Leningrad region) 23d-25th February. Participants: Kirill Alekseenko (born 1997) - silver medallist of Russian Championship up to 10, Championship of Europe 2007, Maria Butuc (1993) - Champion of Russia 2007 un to 14, Alexander Ganichev (1994) - silver medalist of NW Russian region between boys under 12-14, Vadim Pischikov (1994) - winner of the Leningrad region Cup, Evgeny Polonovsky (1994) - Champion of NW region of Russia un to 12, Champion of Leningrad region un to 10, 12, 14, Vladimir Smirnov (1994) - Champion of Kirishi un to 14. During the festival take place: the rapid chess tournament (23.02), classical chess tournament "Participants against computers" (23.02), round robin tournament "Chess 960" (24.02), sheveningen tournament between participants and local team club "Kinef" (25.02), simults by GM Evgeny Alekseev against participants of Festival and GM Konstantin Sakaev against local chess club "Gambit".Shahcom Company provides live coverage of the games of the rapid chess and "Chess 960" tournaments in the playing hall and via Internet. St.Petersburg, 28th of October. In November, the match-tournament in memory of Konstantin Aseev took place in the chess club named after Boris Spassky. There were two teams, each of them had ten chessplayers. "Grandmasters", their captain was S.Ivanov and "Young Masters", their captain was K.Annenkov. Actually, their age division was purely conditional. So, for "Young Masters", R.Lovkov and M.Zakurdaev (both 1988 w.b.) played, and for "Grandmasters" N.Vitjugov (1987 w.b.), or the more, International master P.Anisimov did. By the way some masters had already stormed an IGM norm successfully!

Peterhof, 20th of August. From August, 4th till August, 20th in suburb of St.-Petersburg city of fountains Petrodvorets 63-rd international chess festival "Petrovskaya Ladya" was spent. This year to chessplayers were offered 11 various tournaments. Chessplayers of all age as well as earlier could take part in festival from beginners up to Grandmasters.

The 18-th time Pardubice receives participants of the festival in chess, bridge and other games. 1704 chess players from 47 countries gathered together at the forum of 18 days! Riga, 16th of June. The fifth International children - youth team tournament "BJC Daugmale - Baltic school chess festival" passed in Riga (capital of the Baltic Republic of Latvia) in June 11-15 just 22 teams from five countries contested three principal prizes and one special. The competition took place a building of specialized school three hours journey from old Riga, and attracted attention of four Russian teams from St.Petersburg. At the time of opening the festival. A tournament hall. Two young ambitious trainers, lovers of traveling, brought young pupils of the Petersburg chess school (two teams - "Petrovskaya Ladya" from Peterhof, and two from "the Chess Club named after Boris Spassky".

St.Petersburg, 9th of June. The day before the 80-th chess championship of St.Petersburg among men was over. It passed in a stubborn struggle. One could not determine a champion up to the last day. Where it came to light that three chessplayers came up to finish, having gathered 6.5 points out of 11 each, one had to count Berger's factor. It proved to be higher for Grandmaster M.Makarov. Marat and his family moved here not so long ago from Novosibirsk and as Grandmaster S.Ivanov remarked in half-jest and half-earnest, became a champion of city by "tradition" D.Yevseev had already a similar case who had come to the Neva city from Murmansk. Grandmaster M.Makarov is working as trainer at the "SDuShOR" of the Chess School and the DDYuT of Kirovsky district. Take our congratulation please!

St.Petersburg, 3d of May. May 14 to 27 town of Kirishi will receive a start body of participants of the fifth International chess tournament "World Young Stars - 2007 in Vanya Somov's memory". Twelve juniors from six countryes will play in the IGM norm. We shall witness soon the most interesting struggle! And a two-circle rapid play will pass in May 21 and 22 which is devoted to the 60-ieth birth-year of an awarded trainer of Russia, International Grandmaster of the ICCF, ICCF world vice-champion, awarded master of sports G.Y.Nesis who has been awarded of late a rank FIDE Senior Trainer. Those chess players will play in it for whose chess-making Gennady Yefimovich added a lot of power and talent. Such as are Alexandr Khalifman, Ye.Alekseev, S.Janovsky, D.Komarov, M.Novik and K.Sakaev.
