International chess tournament among jouniors - "Young stars of the world - 2005".
Vanja Somov's memorial.

Town of Kirishi, Russia14.05-25.05.05

SERGEY BYSTROV,
INTERNATIONAL MASTER

THE STARS SHINE STILL BRIGHTER!

The third tournament "The Young Stars of the World - 2005 Vanya Somov's Memorial" continues in town of Kirishi, Leningrad region.

I remind that it is circular tournament with Grandmaster's norm this year. The staff of participants has changed little. Only four chessplayers have never performed in Kirishi. Hence the rivals have studied each other thoroughly they become stronger from year to year and are able to enjoy chess amateurs with all the more deepest plans on the chessboard. Out of notices of a "junior Linares" three Grandmasters S.Karjakin, E.Alekseev and R.Mamedov are playing confidently. But P.Negi from India is not so sure to rival such experienced opponents. Two rounds before the end of the tournament he has only one win and three defeats, the rest are draws. An able youth is being trained by Grandmaster E.Vladimirov who once has worked with G.Kasparov. Paramaryan's best achievement is a bronze medal at the past year's world championship before 10 and victory at the national championship among the young of 16. Nevertheless there are quite members of children with such potential in India. Chess sessions are arranged for them. Sports schools invite experienced trainers out of the number of strong chessplayers, studies are usually carried out a month or month and a half and done two times a year. After four rounds Petersburg Grandmaster Eugene Alekseev has rushed forward. His two wins in series over ELO - favorite S.Karjakin and also Ju.Kusubov (both from Ukraine) have allowed him to do it. The last has not even succeeded in going out of the opening.

Game hall, working atmosphere.

But if for Karjakin this defeat has acted, I would say, as "awaking from a dream" and after this he has played so well that his rivals have not been able to do anything with him. 4,5 points out of 5.

In total, before two concluding rounds he has seven points. But E.Alekseev has not been able to develop such speed and follows in the second line. Moreover, after the ninth round is together with him. They have six points each. R.Mamedov (Azerbaidzhan) and Ju.Kusubov (Ukraine) have five and a half each. Hero of the past tournament S.Zhigalko (Byelorussia) has five alone. E.Alexeev's finish is easier, but surprises can lie in wait for anytime here. There are not Obvious outsiders in the tournament. Strange as it may seem but International master Luca Lenich (Slovenia) is at the bottom of the table, he has 2.5 points alone. On Saturday, May, 21st a day-off is at the tournament. Bus excursions have organized for the participants to Novgorod the Great and Petrodvorets, town of fountains. The tournament is passing in strict conformity with regulations. The board of arbiters game demonstrators, journalists who have reported of the course of tournament, are working like one in teamwork. All will solve finish.

"Let lost do not cry also friendship it will unit!"
