SERGEY BYSTROV, |
| Youth, or experience? |
In November, the match-tournament in memory of Konstantin Aseev took place in the chess club named after Boris Spassky. There were two teams, each of them had ten chessplayers. "Grandmasters", their captain was S.Ivanov and "Young Masters", their captain was K.Annenkov. Actually, their age division was purely conditional. So, for "Young Masters", R.Lovkov and M.Zakurdaev (both 1988 w.b.) played, and for "Grandmasters" N.Vitjugov (1987 w.b.), or the more, International master P.Anisimov did. By the way some masters had already stormed an IGM norm successfully! However, the tournament had not a sports purpose rather. The match tournament took place according to sheveningen system where the rival were given alone ten minutes each per a game. A personally was present at first three round of the competition, and I can say, that the struggle was serious and even very interesting. Of course, some Grandmasters play chess not so often, the most of them being engaged in trainer's work. In spite of this they found forces in themselves to fight the best juniors of the city. The Grandmasters lost five points in the course of competition, but at the finish they seemed to have, "the second breath". In a word, "experience" had 51, 5, and the "youth" - 48,5 points. The best among "Grandmasters" was V.Popov (8 points), E.Gorovykh (7,5) among the "young masters". There may not be any losers here!
An official page
on the site of the chess club named after B.Spassky is devoted to this match-tournament. It was good to organize such tournaments more often!
It is not quite obligatory even to devote them to this or that date or look for an occasion! It is simply to carry out a lot of good tournaments organized with all the heart! As always this competition has been perfectly organized by trainers of club named after Spassky. K.Annenkov and V.Ryzhkov. International arbiter L.V.Peterova was its referee.
I offer a small photo's reporting about it.

Champion of St.Petersburg M.Makarov (to the right) playing E.Levin.

E.Solozhenkin (to the right) has performed unluckily though, but a victory in game versus J.Rozum went into the score-box of the team of Grandmasters.

M.Matlakov (to the right) is still Master candidate officially, but Grandmasters have difficulties in playing with him S.Ivanov is on the left.

Champion of Russia N.Vitiugov (to the right) had uneasy playing, but he defeated R.Lovkov in the game.

The awards were given to the main heroes!
