73d International chess festival "Petrovskaya Ladya - a Winter 2010" taking place in city of the fountains Petrodvoretc between 3d and 11 of January 2010 in DDT Petrodvorcovy district St.Petersburg avenue, 4а). In program of the festival was Grandmaster-norm tournament for the strongest chessplayer of the "Petrovskaya Ladya" club, "Open-tournament", and also mass "C1-C5" tournaments (from the 5 to 1 categories). That time works "A.Karpov school". There arrived students from Izhevsk, Samara, Moscow, Moscow region, Vladimirskaya region, Tomsk, Krasnodar region. Local boys and girls from the Petrodvorets, Krasnoselsky and other districts of the city joined than as well. All in all, participants of the festival and students of "Karpov School" numbered more than 170!
The next mass tournament have started in 73d Chess festival "Petrovskaya Ladya".
"This year winter was severe and snow. Such a previous one I remember only to be 1986-87 when I myself played in the junior championship of Leningrad on the Morskaya Quay, and that tournament was conducted by Mrs A.Kentler and M.Pukshansky. They had been advised to put off that championship, but they nevertheless conducted the competition.
And even failures to appear at the contest were not so many at the time.
A favorite of that tournament P.Svidler yielded a victory then to little known at that moment A Lugovoy a future grandmaster.
And I succeeded also in playing a very interesting game with grandmaster to come and my colleague Valery Popov. But let us return to our festival. It is sometimes not easy and simple to carry out a festival, "Karpov school" session, and all preparatory work as well in the condition of unsatisfactory work of communal services. It took at times three hours and more to go by car to centre of Petersburg, or to meet the students of "Karpov School" at the railway station. The conduct of the last one was scheduled at a chess section of the boarding schools № 289 in the Mozhaysky schlement of thr Krasnoselisky district. Depending upon territory distance of study places in the "Karpov school" and "Petrovskaya Ladya" festival, which was conducted traditionally in Peterhof DDT it was necessary to solve transport questions.
Moreover the distance between these locations is more than 40 km; and many still come from different district of the city! We have solved not to put off any measures, and to pass all the competitions.
Let others appreciate how far we could manage all organizational problems. But the "Karpov school", I think, succeeded in doing very much. There arrived students from Izhevsk, Samara, Moscow, Moscow region, Vladimirskaya region, Tomsk, Krasnodar region. Local boys and girls from the Petrodvorets, Krasnoselsky and other districts of the city joined than as well. All in all, participants of the festival and students of "Karpov School" numbered more than 170! Certainly, it was an additional load upon the organizer. We were helped by the St.Petersburg Chess Federation and in its person I express my gratitude to Vice President of the federation V.V. Bykov for help and support of our festival.
All the problems were solved. But in winter condition visiting the centre of St.Petersburg took more than five hours! And such a force majeure stills more.
Our two buses were broken, and we with our colleague having personal cars had to meet children from the train, carry them to excursion.
In this connection I would like to express great gratitude Igor Pavlovich Ignatiev and Pavel Pavlovich Kiselyov, DT coaches of Krasnoselisky district.
We decided to pass a Grandmaster-norm tournament for the strongest chessplayer of the "Petrovskaya Ladya" club, "Open-tournament", and also mass "C1-C5" tournaments (from the 5 to 1 categories).
Last year we got president's grant of the Public Chamber we were by passed this year. The state has other task to decide during crisis. The President ordered to direct all grant means for providing full employment and occupancy of the population. Indeed, some capable young people address us with employment problems. Not all of them want to work for a small wage of chess trainer, though there are still vacancies for this work in the city. There is such a problem now really thought it was absent some years ago. The talk is of graduates of the high institutes and evening education departments, etc. As a result we are satisfied with a small sponsor aid of the St.Petersburg Chess Federation.
The federation accommodates grandmasters of the "S" tournament and provides their food.
The Municipal council of Peterhof town helps us as well. And still more I wish to say many thanks
to D.N. Golubev director of the boarding school №289 in the Mozhaisky settlement that he believed chessplayers and aided..."
Denis Nikolaevich passed all his days-off, helping to organize and carry out the "A.Karpov school studies".
They met us will in the administration of the Krasnoselisky district but put a binding condition of Anatoly Karpov's visit to open his school. We could not do it during the number vacations but till March 31st, I'm sure, such a meeting would be organized. A Lecture and simultaneous chess session of many times world champion will give great impetus to development and popularization of chess in the biggest district of St.Petersburg. Remarkably there was conducted an opening ceremony of the "Karpov schools" session in the physical culture and health complex (Zdorovcev street, 8), an excursions into the Tuutory park, a well-known sky-mountain resort horse riding: Everything of that kind added a special vivid colour, and allowed children to have good rest before tense lecture and seminar practical studies. This year the "Petrovskaya Ladya" chess club already becomes not a district, but a city organization. Children of Petrodvorets, Krasnoselsky and Kolpino districts of the city are now joining and using all privileges and possibilities of participants in cooperation and study and training assembles, and pupils of the "A.Khalifman School" as well.
Belonging to this or that House of Creative Youth, teen agers club is not an obstacle in order to be a member of our public children and youth organization "Petrovskaya Ladya". "Petrovskaya Ladya Chess club", which is officially registered by Ministry of Justice.
Thus there are cells of our organization in four districts of the city. I put the widening of the as one of priority tasks. "A.Karpov Schools" session or "Petrovskaya Ladya" festival is a great holiday for children. When you see faces of children, who have made a step higher in their chess development you are not sorry to yield your time and personal interest. Every child at our festival gets a prize. The festival being formed so passed two times a year, in January and in August. Local festivals take place in March and November. Many times Olympiad champion Liubov Egorova, deputy of the ZAKS Assembly has help very much.
A project power of the boarding school are 56 persons, 18 of them are studying now, and there are only six chessplayers. We are allotted 0.5 million rubles having been aided by L.Egorova for equipping two rooms, so that next year 12 chessplayers are able to learn at our section. It will be a strong chess centre already. There are not so many centers like our boarding school with its chess branch in the country. I know only an Olympic reserve school headed an Olympic reserve school headed by Grandmaster V.Chekhov in Moscow. We believe that we are doing an important business for RChF, though it pays no attention to our festival despite of polite invitations letters to visit our festival. Let them have it on their conscience. I hope very much that after re-election congress new responsible people will come into the RChF leadership with whom one may have a constructive dialogue. Nevertheless, it is very important that we are greeted by complimentary letter of the part of many times world chess champion A.E.Karpov, and supports by six-times Olympic champion L.Egorova. There are personalities of great scale and not simply officials who come and go. In conclusion I wish still more to thank Grandmaster Sergey Klimov, chairman of Children and Youth Committee attached to the RChF. He come to open the school, participated in all its measures, has also in his plans to read three lectures for school students".

V.I. Krayushkin, director of the A.E.Karpov chess school is presents the third time at our festival, but for the first time in winter. Vladimir Ivanovich adds up to P.Drugov's story.
"Such is the impression in winter that not only going, but walking is very difficult. 35-40 young chessplayers from six regions of our country take part in 48th session of the school. An average level is approximately the first category.
Students, parents and trainers are at a current lecture of "Karpov School".
Our trainers group is changing. In general it is headed by Grandmaster awarded trainer of the USSR I.A.Zaytcev. He was twice in Peterhof. International master E.A.Dragomaretcky has been conducting studies at school this year. He is "well grounded" theoretically, plays obviously like Grandmaster. Reading lectures to children, he gives scientific knowledge clear cut for the rules are effective without a hitch. We have had 48 sessions, A.E.Karpov was present at the five. He is very busy. A nominal money stipend was given before, but one had to put it off because they came to get the stipend but not for sake of knowledge. And our approach is that dynamics of growth is needed..."
